According to the Los Angeles Times outfielder Manny Ramirez will be suspended by Major League Baseball for 50 games for testing positive for banned drugs. His suspension begins tonight and will end on July 3rd. The suspension will cost Ramirez $7.7 million, or roughly 31% of his $25 million salary.
Ramirez is expected to attribute the test results to medication received from a doctor for a personal medical issue, according to a source familiar with matter but not authorized to speak publicly. He was not suspended for steroids, but was suspended for drugs banned under MLB guidelines.
At least this isn’t as bad as Track & Field where 1 failed drug test is a two year suspension and a second failed drug test is a life time ban.
The Dodgers have won their first 13 games at home setting a modern day Major League Baseball record, and have the best record in baseball at 21 wins and 8 losses.
